Introduction
What is Docker
Docker is an open platform for developing, shipping, and running applications. Docker lets you package and run applications in a lightweight, portable, isolated environments—called containers—that separate the applications from the underlying infrastructure making it faster to deliver software. The isolation and security lets you run many containers simultaneously on a given host.
Docker is written in the Go programming language.
Containers are explained in more detail on a later page.
Installation
Docker can be installed on multiple platforms. The easiest way to install Docker is through "Docker Desktop".
If you're using Linux and want to avoid Docker Desktop's commercial licensing (for larger businesses) or need a production-ready setup, you can install "Docker Engine" instead.
